Asphalt roof waterproofing

Surface Cleaning

We start with removing any old asphalt layers and then move to clean the surface thoroughly to remove all debris, dirt, or any additional concrete.

Thorough surface cleaning is essential to ensure the proper adhesion and long lasting protection of the new asphalt.

Repairing Cracks & Sealing Vulnerabilities

We begin by addressing all visible cracks and structural damage as a critical first step in preparing the foundation. Using mastic asphalt, we seal everything from hairline fissures to major gaps, preventing water infiltration and enhancing the roof’s structural integrity. This proactive repair process is essential to achieving a long-lasting, watertight roofing system.

Concrete Fillet

Now we apply a layer of concrete fillet all around the corners to ensure smooth transitions between the walls and the floor and to make sure that the waterproofing material remains as one unit. We mix the concrete with SBR, a latex material, so that there are no cracks in the fillet. We vacuum the corners before the fillet, and once the cracks are repaired and the fillet is applied, the entire roof is vacuumed again in preparation for the foundation layer.

The Foundation layer

A foundation layer is applied to improve adhesion and ensure the effectiveness of the waterproofing asphalt layer. This crucial preparatory step acts as a bonding agent, reinforcing the surface, optimizing the waterproofing process, and preventing humidity from penetrating through to the ceiling. This coating will also extend up the walls as needed, sealing the foundation layer and preventing water seepage underneath.

Laying the Asphalt

Once the foundation layer has fully dried, we apply a 4mm asphalt membrane and seal it using heat, as shown in the images. We use pebbled asphalt, which includes a layer of protective pebbles that offers significantly greater resistance to sun and rain compared to smooth asphalt. For homes located at elevations above 800 meters, we use a thicker 6mm asphalt layer to withstand harsher weather conditions.

Here you can choose to upgrade to a 20 year warranty instead of our standard 10 year warranty. With this extended option, we apply two layers of asphalt, effectively doubling the protection and performance of the waterproofing system.
